Kids Fundraisers

Kids fundraising is more limited in what they can do these days. The door-to-door fundraiser sales we had as kids are not really done anymore and for good reason. Here are few ideas you may want to try.

Auctions -This will work if the event includes parents and family members. Kids don't have much money, so to raise funds have your auction on a night when lots of extended family members will be present.

Many years ago my son's cub scout troop had a popcorn sale that was just miserable. As an active parent we appealed to the parents to right this wrong and had a cookie auction. All scouts were to bring in a plate of cookies to be auctioned off at our next pack meeting. We had a nice dinner and then the auction. These were the most expensive cookies ever bought. Plates sold for $20 and more. We raised about $600 that night for our pack. Because it was an award night, lots of extended family was there and there was lots of support for the kids.

Candy Sale - You see this fundraiser all the time. You see the kids outside Walmart with the candy, you buy it. You can usually buy fundraising candy packs at the big discount warehouses. People are happy to give you a buck for a 30 cent candy, because it is going to a good cause. Make a sign or banner stating the name of your group and what you are selling and for how much. Be cheerful, ask politely, and be ready to accept rejection - cheerfully.

Dinner Out - Many local restaurants will offer a cash back reward to a group for hosting a fundraising dinner at their restaurant. Your group must large enough to impact business, but in our community local pizza places, chick-filet, etc offer school fundraisers on their slower nights. The amount earned is based on the amount sold at a specific day and time - such as Tuesday nights between 5 and 8 pm.
